Local officials are ready to fight for the right of Smolensk to be part of the Golden Ring of Russia tourist route. Will the city administration prove that their city is worth it?

Ministry of Culture News

When the Ministry of Culture announced its plans to expand the Golden Ring, the leaders of several cities began to actively discuss this idea. The Route Standardization Council was created, which invited both city leaders and representatives of the tourism industry and experts. The leadership of Smolensk did not stand aside, having filled out an application for selection as part of the competition for the inclusion of the city in this classic route.

The ministerial plans have an idea to take one city each year, and also do everything possible to make these settlements on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Chances of Smolensk

As for tour operators, this initiative did not cause them special enthusiasm. Their arguments are the difficulties of logistics, since Smolensk is located in the south of Moscow, and the violation of stylistic unity, because the Golden Ring tourist route is an established brand.

But at the same time, they realize that the city will have a wonderful opportunity to receive additional financing. The tourist infrastructure of Smolensk will also benefit from increased interest from tourists, which in itself will be a plus for the entire western part of Russia.

And the city has something to be proud of! For inspection, you can recommend the Smolensk fortress, the Assumption Cathedral, the Drama Theater named after A.S. Griboedov, an art gallery and many other interesting sights.

We believe that Smolensk has every chance of being included in this popular tourist route. The city has preserved monuments and architectural buildings of the early Middle Ages. Fans of historical places and all those who are tired of the bustle of the capital will find what to see and where to go there. In our opinion, this is a wonderful opportunity to plunge into the beauty and leisurelyness of a real Russian province.
